Clinch Combat Challenge Rules

On Sportsmanship for all competitors and parents:

One of the main benefits of competition is the opportunity to practice good sportsmanship. No matter the situation, no matter the conflict, a good sportsman will always conduct themselves as such…a good sportsman. A good sportsman will always maintain self-control, respect, humility, safety, courtesy and professionalism at all times.

 Our competition modo is…

"The game is never more important than the people."

All Arts - We do not require weigh-ins as we are working with limited resources and it can be difficult to find other students at the same level and same size that match up. Sometimes you may be matched up with a bigger opponent who is less skilled or a smaller opponent who is more skilled. We do the best we can to make good match ups.

Mixed Martial Arts

The objective of our Clinch Combat Challenge MMA Matches is to provide an opportunity for our up and coming fighters to experience fighting in front of a crowd in a safe and comfortable environment. The combat challenges are used as a warm-up to Amateur MMA fighting. For the fighters we want them to be able to feel the excitement, nerves and pressure of performing MMA techniques in front of a group. It is also to help the fighters set goals and to have something to train for prior to beginning their Amateur MMA career.

Things to take seriously:

  • Unlike Amateur or Professional MMA you are NOT trying to knock your opponent out. This is more of a heavy sparring session.

  • This is a family friendly event so always maintain good sportsmanship and presence.

Illegal Moves:

  • No obvious illegal moves (Eye Gouging, Fish hooking, groin attacks, Etc.)

  • No attacking the back of the head or neck.

  • No attacking the spine.

  • No Slamming with the intent to hurt.

  • No Elbows.

  • No Knees or kicks to the head. (unless wearing shin guards. No unpadded contact to the head. Ex: Push kick or side kick)

  • No Finger or toe grabbing.

Ways to win:

  • Submit your opponent.

  • Position your opponent in a situation where they cannot defend the strikes. If they can’t get out or

  • effectively defend themselves after a warning to get out you will win.

  • Win by decision.

Time Limit and Score Card:

  • There will be 3 / 3minute rounds.

  • There will be 3 judges.

  • Judges will determine each round who was more dominant with

    • The Striking

    • Cage Control and Takedowns

    • Ground Control, Ground N Pound, Submission Attempts

  • You must win at least 2 categories to win the round.

  • You must win at least 2 rounds to win the fight.

  • If round 1 & 2 are close but the rounds go to fighter A and then Fighter B dominates round 3, fighter B could still be declared the winner based on the judges decision.

  • At least 2 judges must agree on Fighter A or Fighter B for each round based on the 3 categories.
